Musculoskeletal Disorders
Sports therapists train along side Physiotherapists but they specialise in musculoskeletal disorders. They treat pain and injury through hands-on treatment and rehabilitation. Sports Therapists undergo an intensive three-year degree course which focuses primarily on the musculoskeletal system and on restoring, maintaining and maximising movement to relieve pain and increase quality of life.
The main difference between Physiotherapists and Sports Therapists is that Physiotherapists study the neurological system (e.g. Stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s), Cardiovascular system (e.g. chronic heart disease, rehabilitation after heart attack) and Respiratory system (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis). If these systems are not relevant to your current injury then Nicole can help you as she will be able to assess and treat both sports and non-sport related injuries such as repetitive strains, postural issues and neck/back injuries.
