What is Therapist Led Pilates?
Pilates is a form of low impact conditioning exercise that strengthens the core muscles of the body. This includes the stomach, hips, back, neck and upper body. Pilates also improves general flexibility, promotes good postural alignment and helps you feel relaxed and refreshed after every class.
Health professionals are therefore increasingly recommending Pilates as a treatment to help ease and prevent muscular ache and pains, and improve postural awareness. Classes are now being led by physiotherapists and sports therapists.
What is the format of the class?
It is a small class (6people) taking place at the gym in the Nottingham Sports Injury Clinic, which comprises of a full warm up, pilates exercises and a cool down section. The class is an hour long. All the exercises will be modified to suit all levels, individual needs and to help your injury.
Mon 12.45pm-1.45pm, 6pm-7pm
Tues 6pm-7pm and 7pm-8pm
Thursday 12.45pm-1.45pm, 6pm-7pm, 7pm-8pm.
We also offer 1:1 pilates with Nicole Butterfield which cost £30 for 30 mins, £40 for 45 mins and £50 for 60 mins and these are available on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. These classes are great if you can't attend our other classes or want to build up some confidence before attending a group class.
We also can do 1:1 and 1:2 Nottingham Sports Injury Clinic if required and these can be 45 minutes to an hour long.
Who is taking the Pilates classes?
Abigail Tomlinson (Physiotherapist) and Nicole Butterfield (Sports Therapist) both have a keen interest in Pilates and run the classes at the Nottingham Sports Injury Clinic. All our instructors are APPI trained (The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute).
Pilates Class Charges
£66 for 6 sessions
Please contact us if you are interested in a class and to check if there are any spaces, if not we can put you onto the waiting list of your desired class.
Is the class suitable for me?
Pilates is suitable for all ages, abilities and conditions but it is not suitable if you are in high levels of pain or if you are unable to get on and off the floor. If you are unable to get on and off the floor a 1:1 Pilates session may be more suitable as we will be able to use the plinths in the treatment rooms. A Pilates Assessment will enable us to confirm your suitability as well.
Prior to coming to the Pilates Class:
A 30 minute initial assessment is required which enables us to get to know your specific goals, perform a Pilates specific assessment and to teach you the basics positions and core exercises that are required prior to attending the class. This ensures everyone is at the same starting point. If you are currently being treated at PhysioNeeds then this can be discussed.
