3D Printed Orthotics

What is a custom orthotic?

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. They help to reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. About 80% of human beings will face foot related problems at some point in life so it’s very important to relieve or prevent these problems.

There is no guess work involved as they have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet from the data gathered by the Footscan and created using a 3D printer. These insoles are created by a company called Phits and they use high grade ultralight polyamide, specially selected to provide feet with the best comfort and most functional support. Phits insoles are a solution for every type of activity and for any type of shoe: regular shoes, running shoes, safety shoes, football boots and cycling shoes to name a few.

How can having a custom orthotic help me?

Orthotics support your foot and ankle during weight-bearing movements like walking and running. These custom insoles align the joints within the foot providing stability and comfort. This allows for more normalized weight distribution throughout your body, significantly reducing your pain and discomfort and helping to prevent injuries within multiple joints. Your feet are your foundations so it’s very important that these are as stable as possible to help the rest of your body. Runners absolutely love this product as it can help with any current injuries but help to prevent further ones!

How much does the assessment cost?

There are 2 appointment options:

Option 1:

We have integrated the Footscan analysis within the Fit2Go Body Screen so that we can get a full detailed picture of the strengths or weaknesses of your muscles and joints and how they are all interacting with one another. This is great value at £80 (20% off). The analysis done within the Fit2Go Body Screen will indicate whether you actually require an orthotic or not. If the Footscan indicates that you would benefit from an orthotic then we will require an additional appointment to ensure time to get the perfect fit and to make sure it is suited to your activity type or level. This will only take 15 mins and will cost £20.

Option 2:

A Footscan analysis can be done with our trained therapist who can do a dynamic gait analysis and discuss any additional adjustments to your insole to make it a perfect fit! This is £53 for 30 mins.

How durable are they?

Phits orthotics last up to 3 times longer than traditional insoles. They’re sure to out last at least some pairs of shoes! These 3D-Printed orthotics are also low maintenance. After 3-5 years sometimes the top layer of the insole can get a bit worn and this can be replaced at a small cost without any effect on the 3D printed layer.

How much do the orthotics cost?

Option 1: The orthotic, Fit2Go Body Screen, FootScan analysis and therapist assessment costs £330

Option 2: The orthotics, FootScan analysis and therapist assessment costs £280

How does the whole process work? From SCAN to SOLE

Step 1: Footscan and analysis

In clinic you will be asked to walk over the Footscan and all the 2D analysis and 3D analysis of your foot movement is completed after just a few times of walking from one side of the room to another. The high speed measurement and high sensor resolution offer a detailed view on the pressure distribution and foot movement. The movement can be played frame by frame, helping you to be able to see even the littlest of abnormalities during roll off, and/or asymmetrical movements.

The view can be rotated 360° for detailed analysis and will help you to visualise your gait and how much or little movement there is around each foot. The therapist will then explain the findings and explain if and why an orthotic is advisable. A detailed report is then created which is all the information needed to create your unique orthotic.

Step 2: 3D Printing

Based on this data, the Phits software, integrated with the Footscan technology, creates a design. This design can be adapted to your specific needs or to the advice of the therapist assessing you. A 3D-printer then transforms the digital design into ultralight custom orthotics. Afterwards the orthotics get a shock-absorbing comfort layer.

Step 3: Quality control and delivery

After a final quality check, about 2 weeks later, your therapist (If required) invites you to fit your orthotics and make sure your body gets the balance it needs with every step.
